Lee Wins at Bala…

Ok so massive apologies for the late posting of the results from last weekends Reel Elite Bala Roach Cup.

Totally windswept and exhausted from the two days. Yesterday was a true test and we are so grateful for the support and to all the anglers that toughed it out.

And another note of thanks to one and all of you for your support, conduct understanding and effort.

Assisting some of the competitors to their pegs over rough slippy terrain was essential for the event to take place at a virtually untapped and non manicured rugged rural Llyn Tegid ! Faith in angler and humanity restored we salute you anglers.

So what can we say ! Lots of sleepless days (night shift worker) during the build up for me even on the Friday the level was looking as though refunds would be issued to all. Thankfully Thursdays storm was relieved by Fridays better weather and the lake dropped by three or four inches allowing all the planned sections to be pegged – PHEW!

Day one was a beautiful bright but flat calm day never ideal for the lake but I personally was glad we all got to view “Gods Bath” (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿) in all its picturesque glory. Some of the photos the lads took were just stunning hope we get a few posted on here. The fishing was as expected hard but Lee Hilton made no mistakes by bringing no preconceptions to the match by fishing his own way for quality stamp Roach from the first East Bank car park. An awesome result which blitzed that section and the first day. It was hard to see during the post match Guiness that if the event came down to weight after points tie how Lee would be beat. However Bala is a strange beast and anything could happen. Well done to the other section single pointers. Cagsy, Ross Collinson who put in a real shift from a moody sailing club, Wayne Meek another Bala virgin, Ben (Hod carrier) Roberts, and Frosty all going into day two in a perfect solo point position.

Day two and we were met by a typical stormy morning strong winds and driving rain welcomed us all and once the draw was complete the forecast which had promised a break in the weather wasn’t realised and it became apparent we were all in for a wet and wild second day.

Some of the sections really suffered from the rain making access and walking down the banks quite dangerous but again working together proved vital and there were no incidents.

And so five wet and windy hours later we had our final result and again Lee Hilton came away with a perfect section win from the boulders, not quite winning the day again, that accolade went to eventual fourth placed Mark Goodwin also on the boulders who netted bonus Roach and Perch for an amazing 11.10.0 well done Bala veteran Mark great performance over the weekend.

Top five were paid out – I’m hoping they all post individually to let you all know how they stayed ahead of the pack.

5th – Milo and Reel Elite’s Cagsy Parry who was tied on four points with several other fantastic anglers including James Hines, Paul Clibburn and one of my best mates Paul Keeley. All these lads did amazingly well over the course of the event hats off lads.

4th – Second day match winner and seasoned Bala angler Mark Goodwin who drew logistically the hardest peg on the first day and still made the most of it and then as previously mentioned smashed the second day with over 11Lbs.

3rd podium place went to Cadence and Reel Elite Angling and Products backed Darren Frost Frost just did what he does and does so well in tough conditions and against tough opposition his first day result proved his metal and then on the second day he took full advantage of the end peg and his wealth of experience to end on a perfect two points.

Runner up and Perch 👑 king was Wayne Meek who took the biggest stripey over the two days (2Lbs 8oz) and made no errors with two perfect points scores well done mate made up.

And finally our newly crowned Bala Roach Cup winner was Lee Hilton. Breaking convention and truly fishing his own matches – totally showing the way and proving that there are different ways to skin a cat or catch a Roach ! I am personally made up that a newcomer to the lake won this event, there are already plans to make this annual and even improve and expand.

Well done Lee a true angling gent !
